Buying sustainably

The cheapest product is not always the best value. If you count the cost per year or per use, and dare to repair or buy second hand, you save money and things.

1st grade (secondary)Ages 12 to 14Draft: Not yet reviewed by an economics teacher.

Why

A winter coat for €40 or one for €150: the cheap one looks like a bargain. But what if you have to buy a new one every two years?

When you buy something, you usually look at the price on the label. Yet that price does not tell the whole story. How long something lasts counts at least as much.

If you buy smart, you think beyond today: what does it cost per year, can it be repaired, is it available second hand? That way you keep more money and throw less away.
