Gross and net

From the gross wage in your contract to the net wage in your account: social security contributions and withholding tax come off in between.

3rd grade (secondary)Ages 16 to 18Draft: Not yet reviewed by an economics teacher.

Why

The job advert says €2,800 a month. Why is there much less in your account at the end of the month?

The amount in a contract is almost always the gross wage. Before the money reaches your account, contributions and an advance on your taxes still come off.

If you know how a payslip is put together, you can judge a job offer better, make a budget with the real amount and check your own payslip.
